Rochambeau Statue Restored in Newport
The Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations
The dedication of the newly restored General Rochambeau statue took place on June 6 at Kings Park in Newport. All proceeds from our 2018 summer gathering in Newport went to the restoration project. Rhode Island member Eric de Rochambeau attended the rededication of
his great-great-great-great grandfather. Rhode Island Society President Jeff Tingley also attended in support of this important link to our history. The Rochambeau statue was originally constructed in 1933 and is a replica of the original at Vendome, Rochambeau’s ancestral home. The Alliance Française of Newport managed the project.
The Rhode Island Society held its annual summer party this year at Harbour Court in Newport. The event was attended by more than one hundred members from all over the country. We were pleased to have Vice President General Frank Turner and his wife, Francis, join us. This annual event has become a highlight of the Rhode Island Society schedule.
