SMART
No matter what the season, tea can be a tasty beverage since it can be served iced or hot.
But its benefits go far beyond re- freshment. There is plenty of research showing that drinking tea can actually improve your health.
BLACK TEA
Black tea is a favorite among caffeine con- sumers because it has the highest caffeine content of most teas available. In “The Benefits of Black Tea”, an article for Verywell Fit, Cathy Wong ex- plains that black tea is made from dried and fermented leaves of
the Camellia sinensis plant. This tea contains a variety of antioxi- dants that help to fight various forms of cancer and improve immune function. Black tea also helps to fight inflamma- tion and diabetes, and can improve cardiovas- cular health.
GREEN TEA
Perhaps the most widely consumed type of tea, green tea, ac- cording to care2.com, “contains a potent plant nutrient known as epigallocatechin gal- late, or EGCG.” EGCG “increases the rate at which fat is burned in your body,” making green tea an effective option for those look- ing to lose weight. Green tea also improves energy, fights multiple forms of cancer, pro- motes healthy skin and is a potent antioxidant.
OOLONG TEA
Oolong tea is a tea made from the Ca- mellia sinensis plant, which, according to WebMD, is “the same plant that is also used to make black tea and great tea.” Unlike black and green tea, however, oolong tea is partially fermented. Oolong
tea is often “used to sharpen thinking skills and improve mental alertness” and its other benefits can include:
prevention, obesity prevention and more.
cancer prevention, den- tal health, heart disease
