When asking Personal Trainer for General Fitness - Will Henry - about his program and getting back to the basics, his favorite fundamentals of getting fit and about what Provokes his work ethic his response lead me to ask him about the quote that he has on his Insta- gram page @GodsWillFitness.
“Know the difference between strong and powerful...” – Will Henry
So, what is the difference that we should know?!
“It ain’t nothing about what they lifting to give them that power. Just because you are strong or big what does that mean? Is that really going to define you - is that really all that you are about? Powerful is beyond the physical strength so I think sometimes that could get mixed up. When you think about a bodybuilder is he powerful? No; he looks strong. But when you are talking about a powerful figure like Malcolm X or Martin Luther King Jr or Obama or 2 Pac, you think powerful. So you gotta know the difference.”
After speaking with our Dallas based Fitness Professional it was easy to see that structure and having a strong, solid foundation was the key to Will Henry’s success both mentally and physically. I asked him what his favorite workouts were, he quickly stated, “the Basics; the fundamentals like pull-ups, pushups, squats, and lunges.” He explained how these exer- cises were the fundamentals to all things, kind of like struc- ture, and that if you cannot control your body weight then there is no point in even moving forward into lifting other weights. When asked what Provoked his work ethic, he told me that his determination to not fail overweighed his drive to stay the same. He became disciplined by having a sports background, but he has a passion to train and educate people who do not have the same background that needs assistance with changing their lifestyle. Nutrition is very important to Will and an essential part of his personal training program.
I told our Dallas, Texas-based Fitness Professional, Will Henry, I was only going to put the last three sen- tences of our interview into Provoke Magazine. I think he thought that I was playing! That’s what he gets for doing ALL of that smacking, on that good nutrition- al food, that he teaches his clients about! Oh! And I like his new shirt that is coming out .... Stay Powerful My Reader Friends, Not Strong!
I asked Will Henry what were the three key things that he could tell us about getting or staying disciplined and here are quick bullet points:
You have to develop a routine. How long will you be going to the gym? How often will you meal prep your food?
1. We are creatures of habits and it allows things to go more smoothly. It takes 6-8 weeks to break a habit so even though it takes only 21 days to develop a habit it takes a lot longer to break the old habit so you have to continue to develop and handle your newfound habit.
2. Develop the routine. Now, Create a Structure. The structure will hold you accountable to your routine.
3. Get accountability with your measurements and your pictures.
Remember: You can get burnt out or unmotivated, but you must continue to remember why and what you are doing it for. So, the progress pictures are for us to know which direction we want to go and until we see the physical change it is hard for us to correct where we need to be ------ it’s kind of like God’s Will – Fitness That Is *wink face*
