mixed reviews, most notably Kelly Marie Tran, whose backlash prompted her to shut down all social media. However, Ridley’s performances were met with overall enthusiasm. Crowds loved her sincere, emotional por- trayal of Rey— or at least Britain did. Ridley was awarded the Empire Award in 2016 for ‘Best Female Newcomer’ to George Lucas’s imaginative space saga, one of many prestigious awards to come.
Ridley quickly picked up a role in Murder on the Orient Express, donning a tartan skirt to play Mary Debenham. The movie reveals another side of Ridley’s acting abili- ty, leaving behind the action-packed drama of Star Wars and introducing the prim, mysterious Englishwoman. Even as the story’s threads slowly begin to weave togeth- er, one can’t help but focus on Ridley. Despite the fact that she is surrounded by a dozen other talented actors and actresses on the set of the Orient Express, she is still able to command the attention of the room with a turn of her head.
Still, it’s nice to know that fame hasn’t gone to her head. Ridley remains humble and grounded despite the fact that she was featured on the cover of Vogue and asked to record a track with the legendary Barbra Streisand and Anne Hathaway in 2016. On the subject of Ridley’s voice, Streisand was unequivocal: “the girl can sing.” Much to her dismay, Daisy lost a bet with director JJ Abrams for being unable to go a whole day without bursting into song.
As for the perks of being famous, like getting prefer- ential treatment in airports and a hundred other things we civilians can only dream about, Ridley knows these things aren’t normal. She acknowledges her roots, and when quizzed about success stays humble. “My first lead role was ridiculous and amazing for a first film, and for a film in general. I have an amazing agent. I feel really f**king lucky.”

Ever since J. J. Abrams cast Daisy Ridley as Rey in the box office hit Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Ridley has become a household name. The relatively unknown ac- tress was thrust into the spotlight with very little expe- rience in the film industry, a beginner in every sense of the word, and yet she continues to impress worldwide audiences with her charm, wit, and talent.
Ridley debuted in 2015 with the British standalone horror movie Scrawl, along with Mark Forester Evans and Liam Hughes. While both the movie and her for- gettable co-stars quickly faded into obscurity, Ridley became an A-list actress barely a year later.
The new Star Wars movies were celebrated and hated in equal measure. The actors themselves also attracted 36 provokeusmag.com
