  THE SUNSHINE STATE’S UNDERGROUND RAPPER
Blac Kev
Coming straight out the panhandle of Florida is the young fired up mind of Blac Kev. Stepping into the local scene in 2013 fueled by the inspiration of mainstream artists like Wiz Kalifa and Lil Wayne, Black Kev sought out to bring a sound of his own. “In the South, trap music is huge but I don’t want to label myself to just one thing,” said Kev. He expresses how important versatility is to him and the game.
In the beginning, music was only a form of expression and a way out to release the pressures of his surroundings. “For me, music was a form of expression and the more I put out there the more positive responses I got. Because people liked what they heard I went all in” said Kev. “I never half-ass any- thing, I go the full mile.”
Born and raised in the streets of North Florida, Blac Kev became a father at 18. He dropped out of school to work and take care of his child. “Though there are definitely obstacles I never count anything as an obstacle unless I can overcome it.”
Blac Kev gives a lot of credit to his mom for always push- ing and supporting him. “My mom is a Christian woman and doesn’t really care for my choice of music but believes in me. She bought my first studio set up and told me to push hard for what I want.” Not only did Kev’s mom pay for his first studio but she also helped fund him getting on the road doing shows and meeting with promoters.
With several upcoming projects including work with A Teezy, Sleeping Dragons and Eighty K, Kev’s train won’t stop. He is definitely heeding his momma’s advice of giving it 100%, 100% of the time.
When asked about where Kev sees his career going in 10 years his answer was simple, “I want to see it blossom. I want to see it go outside my city.” With the talent he has within him, I have no doubt that he will see that happen. Making money to support his family is all that matters. “I just want the money that pays for my life and to always be myself.”
Blac Kev has one piece of advice for anyone trying to pur- sue their dream in the industry, “Get off your ass and keep trying. If you fall, get back off your ass and try again. If one thing doesn’t work then try something else. There is more than one way to reach the number 8. You just, 5+3, 4+4 and 6+2, make one of them work.”
I will tell you that I’m looking forward to hearing more from this up and coming artist representing North Florida. You can check Blac Kev out on YouTube, Facebook (Mon- trell Moore), Twitter @Basegang_kev, Snap trizzy_trell and Instagram @__dad__. Don’t sleep on this cat. Check him out.
