Alfred Kainga is an African comedian originally from Zimbabwe, South Africa “the dirty south” as he calls it in his own words. Al- fred grew up watching American TV shows such as Sanford and Son, Bill Cosby and Martin just to name a few that inspired him to do standup comedy. He has always been a class clown, and would run the same lines at school he saw on TV which helped him de- velop his career. With a goal to at least make 10-20 people laughed he moved to America in early 2000 to follow his standup comedy dreams. Alfred recalled his first comedy show at the open mic held at Brick House Lounge in Arlington formerly known as Hy- ena’s comedy club. Alfred was given 3 minutes to show his stand up skills, and practiced his routine all week long once the lights hit on stage he was brave enough to get all his jokes out, and ran off the stage immediately afterwards. What Alfred thought was 30 minutes’ worth of jokes, he soon found out what felt like 3 min- utes was only 58 sections of jokes he was told by the club owner he needed to work on his set more. Alfred did just that by work- ing hard and continuing to thrive this eventually landing him a spot with Team Capone with Derrick “Capone” Lee the gangster of comedy, he has traveled over the world doing his standup sets also appearing on Kevin Hart’s show on comedy Central The Hart of the City. Alfred has been inspired to focus and develop his in- dividual career Capone has helped him step out to headline his own shows with encouragement. Alfred has several projects in the future he will soon be appearing in a movie called “The Discon- nection notice” filmed on a shoebox budget as Alfred describes it is full of up and coming comedians as well as veterans like Rodney Perry, Bryan the Wildcat, Just Nesh, Kelly Kells. It will put you in the mind of Friday featuring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker when it first was released “The Disconnection Notice” was shot in Mil- waukee very cold weather as he describes. Alfred thinks it may go straight to DVD or flash drive for him to sell on his own so make sure you stay tuned to his pages on social media for updates.
