Page 25 - Lino Tagliapietra, Il Maestro
P. 25
In Fuji (2013), Tagliapietra pays a vivid, primary-colored homage to another famous mountain: this one, in the island nation of Japan. Scarlet murrine shaped like four-petaled flowers seem to be rising upwards, pushing long ovals
of vivid blue – leaves? Fronds? – above them. A tall slender neck covered with twisting yellow lines reaches upwards, extending the piece’s height to over three feet. A closer look reveals shadowy ovals that look like nothing so much as smoke rings, floating upwards and accentuating the piece’s mystery and playfulness.
