One of Tagliapetra’s best known series is the Dinosaur, represented here by one of the few such works that the studio kept and has now made available. Named for their long, curving necks on oval bodies resting – really, almost floating – on a delicate base, these instantly- recognizable works showcase the artist’s mastery of both physical and visual balance. Dating from 2005,
this Dinosaur is just over five feet tall. Long vertical delineations on its body reveal that its genesis included the incalmo technique, in which two bubbles of glass are joined together during the blowing process, requiring great precision and skill. The body also exhibits extensive cold-working in the form of long vertical stripes of deeply-carved horizontal ridges as well as a band of finer lines.
