B.1 PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS FOR TEACHERS
These Professional Standards are statements of a teacher’s professional attributes, professional knowledge and understanding and professional skills. They provide clarity of the expectations of teachers in the role as a professional educator.
The Standards are set in four key areas. These four key areas, when taken together, represent the role of the teacher.
• PROFESSIONAL AND ETHICAL CONDUCT
• PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE
• PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
• PROFESSIONAL GROWTH
The following states the Professional Standards that are the expected competencies for all teachers. The Professional Standards should be used as part of the process in the continual professional development of teachers.
The Indicators are merely to help clarify what should be happening in classrooms, if the Professional Standards for teachers are having the expected impact.
