six kitchen gadgets you MUST have in your home kitchen
On a recent visit to my favorite Chef’s “toy store,” downtown’s Sur la table, it occurred to me just how indispensable (and in- expensive) some simple kitchen gadgets can be.
Many things circle around in this busy chef’s head all day long, among them my selection for the June e-newsletter recipe. Then I thought, let’s depart from the usual and write about gad- gets!
April, the Sur la table store man- ager, graciously offered to DO- NATE these prized tools so you can win them, and she has also offered all our readers a gener- ous savings in her store!
The easy-to use meat tenderizer features a removable disk with two sides: a smooth side for flattening meats and a side with teeth to tenderize. Having a tenderizer in your toolbox allows you to stretch your butcher bill by buying some of the new “value cuts” available.
Use your Zester/Channel Knife to help zest up all of your meals. Fresh citrus zest adds flavor to just about any dish. Zest and create garnishes comfortably.
We all need a proper set of measuring tools. The Sur la table Round Measuring Spoons feature six round bowls that stack perfectly on top of one another for space-saving-storage. Especially important when baking: baking is as much sci- ence as art. Measuring matters.
The Soft-Handle Microplane Grater features razor-sharp edges to create efficient grating in your home. Grating cheese to add to recipes is now microplaning.
At first, I thought to tell you to ditch your old box grater and go microplane. (Still get the microplane above.) Then I saw this Elite Box Grater featuring five different grating surfac- es: fine, coarse, ribbon, ultra-course and shaver surfaces. This tool will make slicing your favorite fruits and veggies a whole lot easier. Get one!
The Messermeister Chef’s Torch is a lot safer than using
the torch that is packed away in the garage. Perfect for your créme brûlée, meringue pies, or the crumbs on top of your mac ‘n’ cheese. This aluminum torch can reach up to 2700°. 200 minutes use per 9-oz. butane canister.
GOOD LUCK! Six lucky e-news readers will be picked randomly and notified which of these cool new kitchen gadgets they won, courtesy of PBnT and Sur la table.
