Claire’s address, Engaging Generation Z, will interpret social trends, demographics and the implications of generational change.
THE MAIN EVENTS
e main social events at this year’s conference are the Volvo Cocktail Party at Salt House Cairns, the Mercedes-Benz Dinner at the Cairns Convention Centre:, the Scania Dinner Party at the Tanks Art Centre and the IVECO ‘Big Arvo Out’ at the Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal. What makes these events unique are the venues they are being held in. For example, the Tanks Art Centre is actually a group
of former World War 2 concrete fuel
tanks. e tanks were built for the Royal Australian Navy in 1944, and carefully camou aged under the rainforest shroud of Mount Whit eld to protect them from enemy eyes.
e Australian Navy used the tanks for refuelling Australian, American and British ships right up until their decommissioning in 1987.
e Cairns City Council originally purchased the land on which the Tanks stand in 1991 with an intention to broaden
the footprint of the Botanic Gardens, but the Council instead secured a Federal Government grant in 1992 to allow initial re-development of the Tanks site to accommodate community arts.
