Drawbar safety alerts
BCA/NZTA BUS VEHICLE WORKSHOPS
A BCA/NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) workshop on bus vehicle issues relating to the Passenger Service Vehicle Rule (PSV Rule), the Requirements for Urban Buses (the RUB), and Vehicle Quality Standards will have been held in Christchurch by the time you read this. A second workshop is being held in Auckland on 5 September 2018.
MOE SCHOOL BUS TENDER - SECTOR ENGAGEMENT PRESENTATIONS
e Ministry of Education School Transport and Procurement team recently held workshops around the country to engage with operators about the upcoming School Bus Tender.
e presentation slides have been published on the Ministry’s website.

NEW BCA COUNCIL MEMBERS
Nominations for vacant BCA Council positions for the 2018/19 term have
now closed. As we received only ve nominations for the six vacant positions, no voting will be required in this election. e successful nominees can be viewed on page 10 of this Circular.
PICTON COACH PARKING AVAILABLE
Marlborough District Council is now operating a commercial vehicle parking facility on land formerly part of Waitohi Domain, Dublin Street, Picton. is area is available for commercial buses. However, activities involving pick-up or set-down
of passengers will not be acceptable, and long-term parking is not available as this area is a ood hazard zone.
SUMMARY OF AUGUST BCA COUNCIL MEETING
e BCA Council held its third quarterly meeting last month at the BNZ Partners Centre in Newmarket, Auckland. Some of the items discussed and decided on were: ■ a change of auditors for the BCA, to
be voted on at the Annual General
Meeting
■ our current Department of Conserva-
tion concession agreement, and how to continue going forward, as the agree- ment expires in 2020
■ 2019 Conference venue options, with both Auckland and Hamilton being considered
■ the potential impact of the Domestic Violence – Victims Protection Bill on operators.

NZTA SAFETY ALERT – HEAVY VEHICLE SPECIALIST R. JOYCE
e NZTA has issued a safety alert in relation to towing connections certi ed
by Richard ‘Dick’ Joyce. Mr Joyce recently had his authorisation as a heavy vehicle specialist certi er suspended.
e safety alert was released following issues identi ed in drawbeam, drawbar and towbar certi cations by Mr Joyce (heavy vehicle specialist certi er identi cation: RJJ).
Some buses have towbars for light trailers that have been certi ed by Mr Joyce, so we advise you to check their certi cation plates to see if any of your vehicles are a ected.
