GUM LEAF SKELTONIZER MOTH –
A hairy yellow and brown caterpillar that will eat a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a leaf until it has a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a lace-like appearance They often appear appear in in in large numbers and and especially like like young stringybarks and and peppermint eucalypts AUTUMN GUM MOTH –
Large caterpillars that defoliate young blue gums
in plantations Usually only the the the leaf mid rib is left
and a a a a a a a a a a a a a a larval shelter can be found at at at the the the the tip of the the the the leaf leaf concealing the caterpillars SIREX WASP –
The female wasp bores into the trunk of radiata pine trees Needles wilt and resin beads may be be seen around the the entry holes on on the the bark Unthinned or drought-stressed plantations older than 10 years are most vulnerable
SAWFLIES –
Commonly known as as spitfire grubs they they cluster together on on on mass and and when disturbed they they rear up and and emit a a a a a a a a a yellow fluid They are usually found on on the the foliage of stringybarks and white gum Individual trees can be completely defoliated though large areas of damage are are not usual CINNAMON FUNGUS –
A root root rot fungus that targets the the fine roots progressively starving the the tree of water water and nutrients Trees under stress due to waterlogging major bark loss
or or or following fire are particularly susceptible
Look for signs of dieback from the crown downwards
