Sustainability, the Wrights way...
Currently there is a significant drive towards being green, reducing our carbon footprints and being environmentally sustainable. The veterinary industry produces a lot of waste every year. One of our main objectives at Wrights’ Vets is to be as sustainable as possible. We do this by:
• Choosing an electricity company that uses 100% renewable sources
• Attempting to replace written communication with our clients with text or email
• Working on making all of our consent forms electronic and signed digitally
• Ensuring our staff pension schemes are invested in sustainable industries
• Finding alternative materials to plastic where possible i.e. bamboo litter trays and feeding bowls,
and where not possible, choosing the most recyclable on the market i.e. buster collars, microchips, syringes
• Normally using gloves made from biodegradable nitrile, rather than plastic
• Recycling our used
syringes, packaging and even empty and washed pet food packets
• Reducing our medicine and consumable deliveries to help reduce our carbon footprints
• Using anaesthetic machines that recycle more of the exhaled gas allowing less to escape into the environment
• Having uniforms made from recycled plastic bottles
• Planting trees in Yorkshire to offset the impact of cremation after euthanasias
• Many of the fixtures and fittings in the practice have been recycled from the building’s previous tenants
If you can suggest other ways that can help us in our aim to become as green as possible please speak to one of the team.
