CHAIRMAN’S
MANAGING DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
MESSAGE
First, on behalf of the manage- ment team, I want to thank you all for your dedication and efforts during 2017.
As we continue to strive to grow and build our brands in a more efficient and profitable manner, it is clear that we have tremendous challenges and opportunities in several areas of the business. As I witness daily and first-hand the interactions of our talented management teams, I am confident that we can tackle the former and lever- age the latter.
The continued, and very active collaboration between our commercial/marketing teams and our PSC teams has improved considerably this year. This is clearly impacting positively on our results.
Although we are coming a long way, we can still do better by communicating better (more phone - less emails); being more proactive (will make all our lives easier in the long run); taking responsibility for our actions, or lack of (own your work proudly, the good and the bad - less finger pointing); and impor-
tantly nurturing and developing our entrepreneurial skills (how would you behave if it was your business?).
As most of you know by now, these last few weeks, I have been deep diving into our organization with the objective of meeting everyone, listening to each of you and putting plans in place with our HR department to try and fix grievances whenever possible.
I also would like, over time, to make a profound impact culturally so that JWN becomes the best place to work, not only in Jamaica but also within the group. I will need every- one’s consistent cooperation and goodwill to succeed in this ambitious endeavour, but I believe that it can be done. I know that the vast majority of our employees naturally embrace our values of Passion, Integrity, Pragmatism and Togetherness. I wish you and your families a prosperous 2018.

Let me commend the leadership and teams at large for their contribution to J. Wray & Nephew’s growth in rum sales - to nearly $6 billion globally over the first half of the year. The Jamaica rum portfolio earned $5.8
billion in revenue, a 2.9 per cent increase over 2016.
Ourworkisgearedtoward improving value, and implementing meaningful initiatives that will ensure long term sustainability. For 2018 and beyond, I look forward to welcom- ing new opportunities for the JWN family and hope it will be just as rewarding as 2017.
