Texas Classic final on a rainy night at Lone Star Park on Nov. 28, the Gastons’ homebred Jess Good Candy colt, Dulce Sin Tacha, turned his first start on a sloppy track into his first stakes victory. With Rodrigo Vallejo in the irons for trainer Heath Taylor, Dulce Sin Tacha splashed through 400 yards in :19.628, scoring by a nose to earn the $458,889 winner’s share of the purse from Texas’ richest horse race.
“Good horse – he’s a real good racehorse,” Vallejo said. “He got out pretty good and didn’t have any problem with the sloppy track. Then maybe in the last 50 yards – or maybe the last jump – he got the lead. It was a horse race.”
An earner of $518,403, Dulce Sin Tacha quali- fied sixth-fastest to the Texas Classic Futurity with a wire-to-wire victory by 1 1/2-lengths in the Nov. 8 trial. The colt has won five of six races, including
