SAN LORENZO TAY

Many breeders use initials or other ways to name their horses for their operation, but owner Rogelio Marquez Jr.
has chosen to honor his hometown of San Lorenzo in the state of Zacatecas, Mexico. Last year San Lorenzo, a son of Coronas Leaving You, won the rich Lee Berwick Futurity-RG1 at Delta Downs. This year, another San Lorenzo horse, San Lorenzo Tay, captured the April 17 Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity-RG1, a race that paid $370,600 to the winner.
Since Marquez often buys his horses at sales, he renames them. Bobby Cox bred San Lorenzo Tay in Oklahoma, and consigned
him to the 2020 Heritage Place Yearling Sale under the name Pivital. Marquez purchased Pivital there for $67,000 and renamed him San Lorenzo Tay.
“We went to the Heritage Place last year, and we spent a whole day just looking and looking,” said Marquez, who now lives in
