Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity Pays Out Record Purse of $196,100 Smithworks, son of three-time World
Champion Painted Turnpike, won the Grade 1, $198,100 Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity with a time of :15.594. The sorrel tobiano out of the Mighty Invictus (QH) mare Shesa Mighty Chick is now two-for-two in his career, also winning the fastest trial
for this race on March 7. Smithworks made $74,518 for his first stakes victory, pushing his career total to $77,848.
Owners were clearly excited to get their 2 year olds out on the track at the first futurity of the year. The combination of anticipation and the $75,000 added-money created the largest purse since the race moved to Remington Park.
Francisco Calderon, a multiple stakes-win- ning jockey, rode Smithworks to victory. He was given a leg up by trainer Matt Whitekiller for owner Bryan Hawk of Shawnee, OK.
Smithworks hit the wire a half-length ahead of runner-up De Quick Capo, a sorrel solid filly by Capo De Capi (QH) and out of Ritas Quick Flash.
Go to www.remingtonpark.com/results/ for complete results and Remington Park’s race cal- endar. Live racing continues until May 29 with a Thursday-Sunday schedule; first post time nightly is 6 p.m. (CDT).

More than $50,000 was added to the Lone Star Paint and Appaloosa Futurity at Lone Star Park, pushing the overall purse above $150,000. Date to be announced.
Retama Park will host the trials for the Colors of the Alamo Futurity on July 24 and the finals on August 7. Thanks to the Texas Paint Horse Breeders’ Association, an additional $35,000 will be added to the futurity and $12,000 to the top three Texas-bred Paint Horses.
