Apollitical Gold gave his connections a host of firsts when he captured the Golden State Million Futurity-G1 at Los Alamitos
on the first day of November. It was the richest race of owner-breeder Dr. Grant Cox’s career and the richest at Los Alamitos for trainer Eddie D. Willis. Even more of a first came with Justine Klaiber’s win as the jockey because she was the first female jockey to win a million-dollar race at the track.
“I’m grateful to have been able to ride all year long for Eddie Willis and be a part of the team,” said Klaiber.
The Oklahoma connections were taking on a host of Californians, though others also shipped in for the rich race. Apollitical Gold won his trial, but he only qualified the ninth fastest. Thus, he went off at 12-1 in the final.
When the gate opened, Apollitical Gold broke well on top. He quickly had plenty of company. The gelding kept to his task for the entire 400 yards. Headed once, he grabbed the
