PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity-G2
MONOPOLIST
by Tracy Gantz
Jockey Oscar Andrade Jr. won his first futurity at Los Alamitos for Dr. Ed Allred, owner of the track. For Allred, Andrade piloted Monopolist to victory in the $357,700 PCQHRA Breeders Futurity-G2 on Oct. 3. “It’s my first futurity win in the United States,” said Andrade. “I won one in Canada. It’s an honor.”
Andrade is the son of Oscar and Elena Andrade, his father a former jockey and his mother a fourth-generation horsewoman. Young Oscar has ridden all his life, some- thing he discussed as a 14 year old in a youth profile in Speedhorse five years ago. At the time, he wanted to be a trainer or a veterinar- ian. Those careers are still possible, of course, but right now he is succeeding extremely
well as a jockey, being ranked third at Los Alamitos.
Andrade credited his father’s ability, espe- cially with 2 year olds, to have helped him with his riding.
