. Donnell Echols’ Sarge, a homebred
son of Abstraction, ended his juvenile campaign with a 2 1/2-length victory in the December 14, $50,000 Steve Prather Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred 2-year-olds at Zia Park.
Prepped by Joel Marr and ridden by Miguel Fuentes Jr., Sarge covered his 1-mile & 70-yard trip in 1:43.98. The dark bay or brown gelding earned $29,700 from his first career stakes win.
Sarge is one of 36 winners from 58 starters sired by Abstraction, an 11-year-old son of the A.P. Indy stallion Pulpit and the Grade 2-win- ning Quiet American mare Andujar. Racing in three states in 2013, Abstraction earned $86,945 from four starts, and his two wins included the 1 1/16-mile, $75750 Federico Tesio Stakes at Pimlico Racecourse.
Abstraction has sired one official black-type stakes winner and the earners of more than $1.8 million from three crops. The stallion is owned by a partnership and stands for a $2,500 fee at Doubletree Farm at Hobbs, New Mexico.
Sarge is also one of eight winners from nine starters produced by E Bar Prospect, a winning Kentucky-bred daughter of the Forty
Pub finished second and was followed by Coming Abstraction, Benjamin Who, Dan Who, The Pacesetter, and Stormin Texason.
Pub is a bay son of Attila’s Storm rac- ing for Jay Glover and Gary Stallings. A full brother to stakes winner Cerveza, the gelding has won one of nine starts and has banked $37,502.
Coming Abstraction is owned by Mark and Annette McCloy, who also bred the chestnut Abstraction colt. Coming Abstraction has earned $17,785 from six outs.

Niner stallion Gold Fever. The gelding is a half-brother to E Bar Way, the winner of the ‘11 New Mexico Eddy County Stakes (R) at Zia Park, and Movin On, the winner of the 2018 Peppers Pride New Mexico Cup Distaff Championship at Zia Park.
Sarge’s second dam, the Be My Guest mare Lady Lodger (GB), won three stakes in ‘96, including the $150,000 Miss America Handicap (G3) at Golden Gate Fields. Lady Lodger foaled four winners from six starters, including Pompeyano (IRE), a stakes-winning half-brother to E Bar Prospect.
Sarge traces back to his third dam, Eversince, a stakes-placed daughter of 1975 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Foolish Pleasure. Eversince foaled Caitano (GB), a half-brother to Lady Lodger and a Group 1 winner in Italy and Germany in ‘97.
Sarge has won two of four starts and
has earned $51,922. The gelding broke
his maiden in his second out, winning a 5 1/2-furlong, $18,000 maiden-special-weight dash for New Mexico-bred 2-year-olds at Zia Park on October 5.
