at J&B Rental Inc. in Waxahachie,
Texas. The 2006 brown horse won
three races and earned $34,444 and was
a finalist in the Remington Distance Handicap-G3, Lone Star Distance Challenge and Marathon Stakes. From just 39 starters, Jess An Idea is the sire of nearly $1 million in earners and two blacktype runners in Jess A Little Star ($93,296) and Jess Tolltac ($75,594). Jess An Idea is out of multiple Grade 3 winner Corona Coquette ($245,986).

Rapids, Iowa. Ryder Rite, who was a $70,000 purchase at the Los Alamitos Equine Sale, is a full brother to multiple graded stakes winner Rite Regal ($415,123) and stakes winner Rite On Time (2022, $83,916). His first foals are two year olds of 2023.

The photo on page 195 shows Flare For Toby (Frisco Flare-Fols
Miss Rocky, Fol’s Native TB) winning the second annual Charger Bar Handicap-G1 in 2002 at Los Alamitos. The mare went wire-to-wire under jockey Dennis Means for owner Edward C. Allred and trainer Kelly Lewis.
Bred by Dallas W. Blakley, Flare For Toby began her career on the track at two years of age and raced until she was eight. During that time, she made 51 starts with 12 wins, 10 seconds and 7 thirds with earnings of $523,204. In addition to the Charger Bar Handicap-G1, Flare For Toby also won the Mildred N Vessels Memorial Handicap-G1 (twice), Las Damas Handicap-G2, Miss Princess Handicap-G3 and Duplicate Copy Handicap all at Los Alamitos.
After a successful and long career on the track, Flare For Toby went on to become a broodmare, producing 18 foals, 14 starters and 11 winners. She produced one stakes winner in Man From Nocona, winner of the 2007 Paul B Ford Memorial. Her stakes placed runner was Flare Checking, who was second in the 2011 John Deere Stakes Div. 2 and third in the 2010 Chickasis Handicap. Her top money earner was Toby Dasher, who had six wins from 29 starts with $49,900 in earnings.
This year’s $100,000 Charger Bar Handicap-G1 was won by Famous Shining Star. The mare was ridden by Erasmo Gasca for owner Johnny Trotter and trainer Jose Flores.
