(July 14) Three New Track Records were
set at Canterbury Park. The reigning World Champion Danjer (FDD Dynasty-Shez Jess Toxic) set a New Track Record under jockey Cody Smith while winning the Grade 3 Bank

and submitted application for the final racetrack license in the state of Kentucky. According to Revolutionary Racing co- founders Larry Lucas and Prentice Salter, plans are to spend approximately $55 million on the facility and offer $500,000 in purses per day, with a projected $500 million in annual handle through the casino. The KHRC will begin its due-diligence process. Revolutionary Racing in 2018 purchased Colonial Downs in Virginia, in partnership with Peninsula Pacific, which then acquired all interest in the properties in 2022. Churchill Downs then announced a deal
to purchase nearly all the company’s assets, including several large casinos, Colonial Downs and its OTBs, for $2.5 billion.

JOCKEYS AND JEANS FUNDRAISER
SETS RECORD
(July 2) The 8th annual Jockeys and Jeans fundraiser at Churchill Downs raised a record $342,609, surpassing the $341,000 earned
in 2021 at Monmouth Park. The Churchill Downs fundraiser included $25,000 donations from Caesars Entertainment and from the Indiana HPBA and featured 13
Hall of Fame jockeys as well as a speech by 2022 Person of the Year Randy Sampson,
the CEO and Chairman of Canterbury Park. Jockeys and Jeans consists of nine volunteer members. All funds raised go directly to
the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund
to provide a monthly stipend to over 60 disabled jockeys.

(July 8) The 2021 Ruidoso Downs Hall
of Fame Induction Ceremony was held at the Alto Lakes Golf and Country Club. The inductees were Pierre and Leslie Amestoy and Blanca Villegas Varela on behalf of their Champion First Moonflash; the late breeder/owner Gwendolyn Eaves; trainer Fred Danley, All American Futurity
winning jockey Gary Sumpter, the late
Walt Wiggins Sr., and Thoroughbred trainer Steve Asmussen.
STORMY SMITH INDUCTED INTO
PRAIRIE MEADOWS RACING HALL OF FAME
(July 9) At Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino, jockey Stormy Smith was inducted into its Racing Hall of Fame. Stormy Smith has ridden the earners of over $1.9 million
in Thoroughbred races and more than $18.7 million in Quarter Horse races. “I’m honored. Prairie Meadows has been my home away from home for over 20 years now,” said Smith.
CANTERBURY HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2022
(July 11) The Canterbury Park Hall of Fame announced the Class of 22 inductees, which includes the Quarter Horse training team of Jason and Amber Olmstead, Thoroughbred trainer Michael Biehler, and the late Cort Holten who represented the Minnesota Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association. Jason and Amber Olmstead have been involved at Canterbury Park since 2005 and together have won the Northlands Futurity five times. Jason, the AQHA Champion Trainer in 2021, has been the leading Quarter Horse trainer at the track for seven consecutive seasons beginning in 2015.
DR. SETH FISHMAN SENTENCED TO 11 YEARS
FOR DOPING
(July 11) Florida veterinarian Dr. Seth Fishman was sentenced to 11 years in prison and fined $250,000 after being found guilty
of two counts of conspiracy to commit drug adulteration and misbranding with the intent to defraud. The trial was part of a larger federal horse racing performance-enhancing drug
case and is the longest sentence filed against
31 individuals. Prosecutors told the jury
that over 20 years Fishman supplied illegal performance drugs to hundreds of trainers.
In addition to prison time, Fishman will be held jointly responsible for $25 million in restitution along with other co-conspirators. He must also forfeit $13.5 million earned from his business of manufacturing and distributing his substances that were allegedly designed to evade detection in post-racing testing.

Racing for owners Tom Maher and Richard Tobin and trainer Jason Olmstead, Lynnder 16 was ridden by Edwin Escobeda and bettered the previous record of :19.583 set in 2014. And in the 350-yard $35,000 Bob Morehouse Stakes, Jess Rocket Man (Apollitical Jess-Paint Or More) and jockey Luis Valenzuela covered the distance in :17.353 for a 108 speed index to break the previous record of :17.360 set in 2019. The gelding is bred and owned by Lunderborg LLC and trained by Jason Olmstead.

LOS ALAMITOS WIENER NATIONALS
(July 16) Los Alamitos held the 25th running of the Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals,
with Paisley crossing the finish line in the 50- yard race on top. Paisley is owned by Danielle Ramos. Approximately 103 dachshunds raced this year and around $10,000 was raised for
the Seal Beach Animal Care Center, including
a $5,000 donation from track owner Ed Allred. The Wiener Nationals and Seal Beach Animal Care Center have raised over $282,000 over the years through the event.
