Subasta Selecta Futurity Consolation
SE LOKI
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
Nine participants competed in the Subasta Selecta Futurity Consolation, due to the withdrawal of BR Peregrina from the Cuadra
Chilano, who was not entered. As in the corre- sponding final, the distance was 350 yards and the total purse was $569,690 pesos
(approx. $28,109).
At :17:343, the colt Easy Perry Cartel qualified for this event with the best time, but on Dec.13 the results favored the sorrel SE Loki, who rose from ninth to first in the field.
The race unfolded between two main pro- tagonists: Succesor Horse, who raced straight along the inside and took the lead; alongside him SE Loki broke and veered decisively to the right of the center of the track to head towards the finish line with all his power, and in the last few yards overtook Succesor Horse, winning the race by the difference of a head, in a photo finish.
SE Loki completed the
distance in :17.26, post-
ing a 93 speed index under
Israel Dominguez Morales,
the same jockey who rode
him to victory in his trial.
SE Loki now has a race
record of 3-0-0 from four
attempts, and the only
time he did not win was
in the consolation of the
Garañones Futurity, where
he finished fifth. For this
win, he earned the $284,845 pesos (approx. $14,055 US) winner’s share of the purse, bringing his total earnings to more than 384,000 pesos.
Although José Roberto Lozano Santay appears on the certificate of registration of the horse as his breeder, the gestation, birth and aging of the gelding was at Rancho
Amecameca, owned by Jesús Sánchez Isidoro, due to the change of ownership of the mare shortly after its birth. It was even Mr. Sánchez Isidoro who assigned him to the Annual Select Yearling Sale, where he was sold
for $90,000 pesos (approx. $4,457).
SE Loki (Jabulani- Oceanica, Ocean Runaway) is owned by the Cuadra
H-R, where Herminio Dominguez Meza trains him, but he was officially saddled here by trainer Ismael Ayala Salas, who also represented the Cuadra during the awards.
It should be mentioned that in reviewing the race, the judges disqualified Delfín Solo from third to seventh place for the offense committed on RG Valentine Corona at the start.
