12-Month Racing License Approved For Los Al
The California Horse Racing Board voted 4-3 to approve a 12-month racing license for the current Los Alamitos Quarter Horse meet that began Dec. 26, 2020 and runs through Dec. 21, 2021. It was a reversal of the previous CHRB decision granting a 6-month license, which track owner Ed Allred said threatened the viability of the track’s nominating and payment system for many of Quarter Horse racing’s top futurities and derbies. Last summer, Los Alamitos enacted medication and veterinary reforms by adding 3 retired racing board investigators to work with stewards and patrol the stable area to observe horses entered on race days.
Turf Paradise Group Sues Insurance Company
According to the Paulick Report, TP Racing LLP, the group that operates Turf Paradise in Phoenix, Arizona, has filed a civil suit against American Home Assurance Company for failure to pay for COVID-19 losses covered by their insurance policy. The policy promises to pay for business income losses, losses caused by loss of property or restriction of access to properties, and interruption of business due to orders of a civil authority. TP Racing LLP says the policy does not specifically contain an ex- emption for viruses or bacteria. TP Racing LLP filed an insurance claim in April 2020, and American Home Assurance Company in July disputed the claim stating that a clause listing exclusion for “pol- lutants or contaminants” would apply to viruses.
