DOUBLE CRUISE

Asharp break from his rail post helped Double Cruise score a wire-to-wire victory in the $24,926 Alberta Bred Derby at Century Mile Racetrack in Edmonton, Canada, on Sept. 27.
Owned, bred and trained by Tom Kenway, Double Cruise was never headed, covering the 400 yards in :20.112 by a clear 1 3/4-lengths over Suits. Martin Ortiz rode the sorrel gelding, who earned a 101 speed index and the $11,217 winner’s share of the $24,926 purse.
Double Cruise recorded the second-fastest qualifying time with his second-place finish in the first of two trials on Sept. 13.
Raced exclusively in Alberta, Double Cruise has won three of 10 starts and has banked $42,759. He has won two stakes, including last year’s 300-yard $40,711 Alberta Stallion Futurity at Century Mile.
Kenway bred Double Cruise out of winner Eye Cruise. She
has produced 100% winners from three starters. Double Cruise is her first stakes winner.
Suits (First Timber-Burners Beauty) earned second place money of $4,237 to bring his bankroll to $31,869 from 14 races for owner, breeder and trainer Wesley T. Oulton. J.B. Botello rode the homebred mul- tiple graded stakes placed gelding.
Speedy Rae (Its All About Speed- Erica Rae) finished third, a nose behind Suits, for owners Jane Leech and Edward Vanee. Ricardo Moreno rode the gelding for trainer William Leech. The gelding was a finalist in the Alberta Stallion Stakes Derby this year.
Ivory Fame (Ivory League-RD Taras Fame), First Pulse (First Timber-Snowbound Star Lady), Poutn And Streakin (Its All About Speed-Poutnlori), Yuma Class (Three Ten To Yuma B-Class Acte), Timbergold (First Timber-Gilded Gold), and Tee For Teller (Teller Cartel-Feelin The Fever) completed the order of finish. Fastest qualifier Quarter Sawn was scratched.
