2013 World Champion Last To Fire also has return the blood pattern through crosses of Beduino on Dash For Cash as well as through a Dash For Cash/Jet Deck Cross.
of Azuree by Azure Te. This a returning the blood using a 3/4 brother and sister in Easy Dozen and Take You On.
When we look at the pedigree of Easy
Jet we see that he is sired by Jet Deck. Jet Deck was out of Miss Night Bar by Barred by Three Bars by Percentage. The dam of Easy Jet was Lena’s Bar by Three Bars by Percentage. The dam of Lena’s Bar was Lena Valenti a Thoroughbred out of Perhobo by Percentage. Thus Easy Jet has a returning the blood pedigree through Percentage.
Azure Te is sired by Nashville by Nasrullah. The dam of Nashville was Bonnie Beryl by Fighting Fox by Sir Gallahad III. The dam of Azure Te is Blue One by Count Fleet. The dam of Blue One is One Bell, who is out of White Favor by Sir Gallahad III. Thus we have a returning the blood through Sir Gallahad III in the pedigree of Azure Te.
The 2012 AQHA Racing World Champion was One Dashing Eagle by One Famous Eagle. The dam of One Famous Eagle was One Famous Lady by Chicks Beduino by *Beduino. The dam of One Famous Lady was One Slick Cookie by Dash For Cash.
The dam of One Dashing Eagle is One Sweet Dash by First Down Dash by Dash For Cash. The dam of One Sweet Dash is Sweet Beduino by *Beduino. Thus One Dashing Eagle has a returning the blood pattern through a cross of *Beduino on Dash For Cash and a Dash For Cash on *Beduino cross.
The 2013 AQHA Racing World Champion is Last To Fire. Last To Fire is sired by Walk Thru Fire by First Down Dash. The dam of Walk Thru Fire is Sweet Beduino
by *Beduino. This puts Sweet Beduino into
two AQHA Racing World Champions, One Dashing Eagle and Last To Fire.
The dam of Sweet Beduino is Sweet Game by Game Plan by Easy Jet by Jet Deck. The dam of Last To Fire is Last Shall Be First and she is out of Outlasting by Chicks Beduino by *Beduino. The dam of Outlasting is Tihswa by Fast Jet by Jet Deck. Thus we have a return the blood pedigree pattern through a Dash For Cash/Jet Deck cross.
The 2014 AQHA Racing World Champion is JRC Callas First. This horse is sired by Winners Award. The dam of Winners Award
is Sweet Miranda a daughter of Lucks Fame by What Luck by Bold Ruler. The dam of JRC Callas First is Calla Missy Jane who is out of Missy Joyce by Master Hand by Bold Ruler giving us another returning the best blood cross with Bold Ruler as the common ancestor.
The interesting part of this pattern is
the dams of What Luck and Master Hand. What Luck is out of Irish Jay by Double Jay. Double Jay was sired by Balladier. The dam
of Master Hand was Annally by Spy Song by Balladier. Balladier was sired by Black Toney. Black Toney was a Domino/Ben Brush cross. Balladier was bred by C. R. Bradley’s Idle Hour Stock Farm during Olin Gentry’s time there.
As you can see the return the blood is
a pretty common breeding pattern, and it shows up in some pretty good horses that have had an influence on the breed. The goal of returning the blood is line breeding, which is designed to enable the breeder to keep a high relationship to one or more outstanding individuals. We want to increase the number of genes supplied by the outstanding individual or individuals in the
  foals produced.
Returning the blood allows us to do that
through the sire’s dam. This breeding pattern increases the influence of the sire’s dam. We have learned that the dam is very important in the genetic makeup of the foal, and this allows us to increase the genetic influence of the best blood found in the sire’s dam.
One of the interesting things we see in the returning the blood pedigree pattern
is how we can take advantage of the sex linked genes. By using both male and
female representatives of a bloodline we take advantage of genes that are passed down through the sex of the individuals we are using to be a part of the line breeding pattern we are using. We do this through a variety
of examples. One way is the use of brothers and sisters in the breeding pattern. A great example of this is the pedigree of Jackstraw and his line breeding to the full brother Pagan Pan and sister Jeanne Bowdre.
Another interesting example comes from Stolis Winner. His sire, Stoli gets a female influence of *Beduino through his dam, a daughter of *Beduino and a male influence through his dam Veva Jean who is sired by Runaway Winner, a son of *Beduino.
Our look at “returning the blood” has shown us a variety of ways it can be used through the examples we have shown here.
We have seen that “returning the blood” as a line breeding pattern is very common in our industry. So the underlying goal of this breeding pattern is line breeding to increase the influence of a prominent common ancestor or ancestors, and we do it by “returning the best blood of the sire’s dam” to the foal produced.
The goal of returning the blood is line breeding, which is designed to enable the breeder to keep a high relationship to one or more outstanding individuals.
