Mexican Breeders Futurity Challenge Consolation

Nine of the ten qualifiers were entered into
the Mexican Breeders Futurity Challenge Consolation after AG Navigating Steph, from the
Cuadra Los Gavilanes, was scratched. The purse for this race was $200,000 pesos ($9,681 U.S. approx.) and the distance was 350 yards.
In the trials, First Krash was the best positioned with :17.377; however, the three owned by Cuadra Sajoma stood out, not only because
of the quantity, but also because they captured the top three qualifying times in the finals, an uncommon result in this type of competition.
Little Janie Eagle had a tricky start, drifting out and interfering with BR Dulce and Miss Niftys Krash. In contrast from the outside 9-position, Cartel Regio broke well, while CC Upper Cartel and MS Corona Ease did the same from the center of the track. Soon the duel between the stablemates was underway.
It was Cartel Regio under the guidance of Aarón Adrián Gómez who, despite having
followed a close path on the outside rail, caught CC Upper Cartel, whom he surpassed by 1/2-length, as well as
3/4-length in front of MS
Corona Ease.
It took :17.25 to complete the 350 yards for a 91 speed index. This time significantly improved on the :17.49 of
his trial race, where he was second to trial winner BR Ficha. This was his second victory in eight starts, of which he also has three seconds and one third.
Cartel Regio is a colt by
Danny Cartel and out of Eye
Teller, a winner and stakes placed in Mexico and a daughter of Teller Cartel. He was bred by Cuadra La Presita and trained by Gonzalo Bastida Pacheco.
At the end of the race, the stewards disqualified Little Janie Eagle from fifth to
last place for the infractions committed at the start.
The award ceremony was guided by Adriana Gómez Barnola, Manager of the AMCCCCM, accompanied by Mauricio Dorantes, Manager of Equestrian Operation of the Hipodromo de las Américas. It was the trainer Gonzalo Bastida Pacheco who received the corresponding trophy on behalf of the Cuadra Sajoma. Special guest was Mr. Pedro Saavedra Rodríguez, agent of the jockey
Aarón Adrián Gómez.
As already mentioned, the gelding CC Upper
Cartel (Danny Cartel-Upper First, Ought To Be First) and the filly MS Corona Ease (Sea Horse Corona-MS Bonafide, The Down Side), took second and third place under the command of Arturo Sánchez and Luis Fernando Velázquez, respectively. They are the upbringing of Alejandro Domínguez Márquez and Salomé Gallegos, in the same order mentioned.
The common factor among these runners is that their paternal grandsire is Corona Cartel.
After the disqualification of Little Janie Eagle, the order of finish was BR Secreta (Southern Corona-Down To Separating), First Krash (Krash Cartel-Minya), Ride Eagle Ride (Jabuti Eagle SA-Bullet Ride), Miss Niftys Krash (Krash Cartel-Niftys Royal Flush), BR Dulce (Southern Corona-One Kool Jess) and Little Janie Eagle (Jabuti Eagle SA-Carls Little Janie).
