Veteran horseman Monty McNair has joined the management team
staple in the Texas Quarter Horse racing community, was honored with the Allen Bogan Memorial Award for 2020. With her role as publicity director at Sam Houston Race Park since 1997, Martha utilizes interviews with connections in her press releases, helping share the hard work and dedication that goes in to winning stakes races. She is among the most prominent voices on social media, and continues to be active in fan education, writing and Quarter Horse racing publicity in Texas, Louisiana and other regions of the US.

Mr Michel, winner of the Miss Roxie Little Futurity at Indiana Grand, was named the leading Quarter Horse at the track.

INDIANA GRAND MEET LEADERS
Indiana Grand ended their 2021 meet and named their meet leaders. The husband-and- wife team of Gwen and Randy Williams were named the leading owners for the second straight year. Horses owned by Williams Racing won 11 races with $371,794 in earnings. Williams Racing now holds 44 wins at Indiana Grand are among the top
5 all-time winning Quarter Horse owners at the track. Two-year-old gelding Mr Michel (Kiss My Hocks-Lovemelikethat, Likenothinyoueversaw) was named the leading Quarter Horse at the track. Trained by Claudio Barraza for owner Alberto Valadez, Mr Michel won five of seven starts and earned over $200,000 to become the leading money earning Quarter Horse in a single season at the track. Among his wins were the Miss Roxie Little Futurity and the Leader of the Class Futurity.

gala was held at Lone Star Park, with
five inductees in AQHA Past President
Dr. Jim Heird, Mike Robbins, Tommy Azopardi, Kenny Trout and Hal Wiggins. Also recognized with the JoAnn Weber Distinguished Service Award was Jennifer Gibbs, and special presentations were given
to the honorable Lois Kolkhorst and the honorable Tracy King. The ceremony featured AQHA Hall of Fame member D. Wayne Lukas as a special keynote speaker.
CAVENAUGHS PURCHASE JAMES RANCH
Don and Fran Cavenaugh have purchased
James Ranch in Wayne, Oklahoma, and will rename the facility Cavenaugh Quarter Horses with longtime horseman Mike Turner as farm manager. The Cavenaughs have sent three of their stallions to the ranch for 2021: A Sweet Jess (Apollitical Jess-One Sweet Dash, First Down Dash), Good Candy P (Good Reason SA-Send Me This Wagon, PYC Paint Your Wagon) and Ryder Rite (Favorite Cartel-A Regal Classic, A Regal Choice). All three stallions’
first crop are weanlings of 2022. Their fourth stallion, Champion Uncle D, will remain at Lazy E Ranch in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

LQHBA AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS DURING CHAMPIONS DAY AT FAIR GROUNDS
The Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders’ Association continued their Scholarship
Award program, awarding another $4,000 in scholarships to Louisiana youths during the Louisiana Champions Day at the Fairgrounds Race Course. Molly Monteleone, Alexandra Nasas, Christopher Collet and Patrick Mahan were each awarded a $1,000 scholarship each from a “live drawing” held in the Fairgrounds winner’s circle, presented by LQHBA Executive Director Bruce Salard. LQHBA has awarded more than $700,000 in scholarships to the youth of Louisiana through this program. For additional information visit the association’s website at lqhba.com.
