2022 SPEEDHORSE BARREL STALLION REGISTER
The cover of this year’s 2022 Speedhorse Barrel Stallion Register celebrates the legendary Blazin Jetolena, aka Jet. The 1999 sorrel stallion has proven himself in the barrel arena as well as through his progeny.
Randy and Sue Rist bred and raised Blazin Jetolena.
When Blazin Jetolena first hit the arena,
he became the 2003 Equi-Stat Leading Barrel Futurity Money Earner. He won seven futurities, including the Beth Cooper Memorial Futurity, AW4D Southwest Regional Futurity, Arizona Gold Futurity, High Prairie Roundup Futurity, Washington Barrel Association Futurity, XBA Futurity and American West 4D Final Futurity.
Jet entered the PRCA by winning several rodeos, including the Othello and Grandview rodeos in 2004. Then in 2005, he won rodeos at Idaho Falls, Herber City, Othello, Waco, Liberty and Franklin. With Melanie Southard riding, they ran the fastest time at the 2005 Heartland Tour where they qualified for the 2005 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Jet closed out his barrel career with over $120,000 in earnings.
Blazin Jetolena’s first foals entered the world in 2005, the same year he qualified for the NFR. Randy and Sue stood the stud themselves and then stood him at a few other places before finally landing with Jeff and Andrea Busby, who later purchased him.
Blazin Jetolena is by Lenas Sugar Daddy, who was bred by Shorty Freeman, Inc. Foaled in 1978, the stallion was purchased by Wayland

and Elaine Heatley. Due to an injury as a two year old, Lenas Sugar Daddy’s show career was cut short with only a couple AQHA points in Heeling. He became the sire of 15 performers with earnings of $132,120 in the Barrel Futurities of America, National Cutting Horse Association, National Reining Horse Association and National Cow Horse Association.Blazin Jennie Jet, the dam of Blazin Jetolena, was bred by Duane Bruland and purchased by Randy and Sue List as a three year old. Ridden by Sue, she became a talented barrel and gymkhana horse, setting many local arena records and earning over $20,000 at open jackpots and amateur rodeos. The highlight of Jennie’s career was earning the 1993 WBRA Reserve Champion.
Blazin Jetolena is ranked #3 on the All-Time Leading Barrel Sires list with $4,266,256 in total progeny earnings from 267 performers. In 2021, Blazin Jetolena is listed at #8 on the Top 20 Barrel Futurity Sires list with total current year earnings of $128,472. His top 2021 earner, RV Brijett is ranked #6 on the Top 10 Leading Barrel Futurity Horses list at $65,140.
Blazin Jetolena’s top earner is NFR qualifier Sheza Blazin Move with $382,665 in earnings. She is out of Sheza Cashanova by Dash For Cash. Jet’s other NFR qualifier is Blazin Ta Fame.
Blazin Jetolena is quickly becoming a successful broodmare sire with his maternal grandget having earnings of $823,949. His leading money earner in this category is Tres Movidas ($301,332), who is out of NFR qualifier Sheza Blazin Move. In 2021, Blazin Jetolena is the broodmare sire of NFR qualifiers Famous Lil Jet (by Dash Ta Fame) for Jordon Briggs, and Teasin Dat Guy (by Frenchmans Guy) for Molly Otto.
