Planning on Double-Registering Your Horse? Read This First!
If you plan to race, remember that ALL double-registered horses must have the same name at APHA and AQHA. When registering your American Paint Horse—and if it will be registered with AQHA as well—make sure
you select a name that is acceptable to both registries. Your horse WILL NOT be allowed to race AT ALL if the names are not the same.
Reminder: Registration Requirements for Stakes Races
A registered Paint can run in an APHA stakes race if it meets the following requirements: Regular Registry Horse:
• HorsemusthaveanAPHA-registered parent in the 1st generation—that means the hose’s sire OR dam is APHA registered (either Regular Registry or Solid).
Solid Paint-Bred Horse:

Registry parents in the 1st generation— that means the horse’s sire AND dam are APHA Regular Registry horses.
• Option 2: Horse has 1 APHA regular registry parent (sire or dam) in the 1st generation, AND has at least 1 APHA Regular Registry parent in the 2nd generation—the horse’s sire or dam is APHA Regular Registry, AND a grand-sire or grand-dam is APHA Regular Registry
