take on a hybrid vigor breeding pattern. Hybrid vigor is the phenomenon that
takes place when we use inbreeding in one line of horse crossed with another line of horse that are inbred but unrelated, and this leads to outcrossing to get as much hybrid vigor as possible. Jay Pumphrey, former AQHA President and one time Trustee for the Burnett Ranches, put this phenomenon out with three scenarios. The first way to get maximum hybrid vigor is to breed
two inbred or linebred individuals that are unrelated. The second is to breed one inbred line to a line that has no close inbreeding but is unrelated to the inbred line. The third
pattern is to breed two individuals that are not related, and they show no inbreeding in their respective pedigrees.
We see the second example in the pedigree of Eye Am King and the potential for hybrid vigor in this pedigree pattern. We see that we must go to the fifth generation of Mr Jess Perry to find common ancestors. In this case he has a breeding pattern of 5x5x5 to Three Bars and a breeding pattern of 5x5 to Chicado V. This includes linebreeding
to the full brothers Three Chicks and Triple Chick who are sired by Three Bars and out of Chicado V. Then we see that Eye For Corona is linebred to the Dash For Cash/Beduino
a second in the Rainbow Futurity and a third in the Kansas Futurity. He had 15 starts with nine firsts, one second and four thirds.
Mr Eye Opener is the sire of horses that have won over $28 million from 1,501 starters with 1,167 ROM, 95 stakes winners and 117 stakes placed runners. His stakes winners include the Champions Eyesa Special, Eye Opening Episode, Silvered Eyes and Mongoose Jet Eye.
The broodmare sire record for Mr Eye Opener shows that his daughters produced 1,923 starters with 1,382 ROM, 145 stakes winners and 146 stakes placed runners with earning of over $48 million. Llano Teller
is the leading money earner, winning the All American Derby-G1 and the Ruidoso Derby-G1. Mr Eye Opener is also the broodmare sire of A Revenant, the 2021 #1 Leading Freshman Sire of Money Earners and a son of Mr Jess Perry.
When Mr Jess Perry went to the 6666 Ranch of the Burnett Estate, he was brought in to be an outcross on the Dash For Cash line of mares. Eye For Corona brings in an interesting pedigree design that not only features the blood of Dash For Cash but
also linebreeding to this great stallion. Then we see linebreeding to Beduino is also a part of her pedigree, giving us linebreeding to
this great nick of Dash For Cash/Beduino. Mr Eye Opener is sired by Dash For Cash and out of Bedawee by Beduino. This gives Eye For Corona a breeding pattern of 3x4
to Dash For Cash. She also has a breeding pattern of 4x4 to Beduino. Thus, she is linebred to the Dash For Cash/Beduino nick.
We use such breeding theories as nicks like we see with the Dash For Cash/Beduino nick and linebreeding to that pattern to breed a better horse. We also want to consider
how to infuse hybrid vigor into the foals we produce. Eye Am King gives us an interesting
