Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale
September 1-3, 2023 Preliminary Results
The 2023 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale was held Sept. 1-3 at the Ruidoso Downs Sales Pavillion during All American weekend. The sale saw 344 head sell with gross receipts of $27,429,000, at an average price of $79,735, which is a 9% increase compared to last year. Sixty-nine yearlings sold for six figures, one less than last year, and 24 of those sold for upwards of the $200,000 mark.
The sales high-seller, which sold for $1,000,000, was Hip #239 Mr Pacmann (Feature Mr Jess-Faith And Courage, Stoli). Consigned by Jumonville Farms, Agent for Bunny and J.E. Jumonville and purchased by Elite Racing, the colt is the first Feature Mr Jess colt to sell at Ruidoso in 10 years and became the highest race-bred Quarter Horse Yearling to sell at auction.
Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches, LP consigned the $725,000 second-highest seller, Hip #278 Hott Favorite (Favorite Cartel-Pandorum, Tres Seis). Purchased by Hott Favorite Partners, the colt is a half- brother to 2-time Champion Hotstepper and multiple Grade 1 winner In Hott Pursuit.
West Texas Racing Partnership led
all buyers, purchasing nine yearlings for $2,035,000, while Burns Ranch, Agent led consignors with 23 yearlings selling for $1,968,000. Eye Am King was the sale’s leading sire by average with three yearlings selling for an average of $130,667. Favorite Cartel saw 49 yearlings sale for an average of $127,612.
