The 25th annual Texas Quarter Horse Association Yearling Sale was held July 29-30 at the Exposition Hall at The Freeman in San Antonio, Texas.
Total sales reached $6,004,300 for 251 horses sold of the 343 offered, which was a remarkable increase from 2021 in which 184 horses sold for $4,373,000. The average price of $23,922 was up slightly from last year and the median was $14,000. The RNA rate was up from 24% last year to 27% this year.
Two colts tied as the high sellers on clos- ing day of the sale, selling for $150,000 each. The first was Hip #232 Nola Brees (Kiss My Hocks-Where Eagles Soar, One Famous Eagle), who is a full brother to multiple stakes winner Dr Tool. Consigned by Tyler Graham, agent for David Graham and Andy Caulo, the bay colt was purchased by Heavy Hitters Racing Stables. Bobby D. Cox consigned Hip #323 Gotagogh (Favorite Cartel-Signs Zoomer, Shazoom), who was purchased by Triple Five. The brown colt is a half-brother to Champion The Fiscal Cliff and multiple stakes winner Wagon Tales.
Also consigned by Tyler Graham, agent, the second highest seller at $148,000 was Hip #311 Chilitas (Apollitical Jess-Mary
Me Anna, Game Patriot). The filly, who was purchased by J&J Stone Inc. is a full sister to stakes winner Chilitos and out of a stakes placed and New Track Record setting half- sister to Champion Kiss My Hocks.
The leading buyer was Salazar Stables LLC, purchasing five horses for $260,000, followed by J&J Stone Inc., which purchased two horses for $250,000.
Tyler Graham, Agent, was the leading consigner of the sale, with 16 horses selling for a total of $916,000. Bobby D. Cox was the second leading consigner of 19 horses for a total of $861,000.
The leading sire by average with two or more yearlings sold was FDD Dynasty with five head sold for an average of $74,000. The second leading sire in this category was Flying Cowboy 123 with two head selling for an average of $67,000.
