 Denim N Diamonds Handicap-RG3
KISS THRU FIRE
by Tracy Gantz
Now that Kiss Thru Fire has gotten over her gate issues, she has put together back- to-back stakes victories. She most recently
captured the Feb. 20 Denim N Diamonds Handicap after taking the Charger Bar Handicap-G1, both at Los Alamitos.
“Her issue was she wouldn’t get out of
the gate and then get in trouble,” said Juan Aleman, who trains Kiss Thru Fire for Robert Kirk Gentry’s Gentry Farms.
“It would hinder her from
finishing better than she has.
Now she’s got it.”
Kiss Thru Fire did indeed get it. She broke well in second and quickly went to the front in the 350-yard Denim N Diamonds. As the 1-2 favorite, she scored by a 1/2-length in :17.669, post- ing a 91 speed index.
“She has been breaking good every time in her last
three starts,” said Aleman. “She’s shown what she can do when she gets out of the gate.”
Originally, Gentry planned for Kiss Thru Fire to take a hiatus from racing for embryo transfers. But she is racing so well that he decided to send her to Remington Park.
“She’s going to keep running,” said Aleman. “If everything goes okay and things go as planned, she’ll be back here for the Mildred
Vessels (in September). That’s what we’re shooting for.”
Gentry Farms bred Kiss Thru Fire from homebred Fredaville, the Champion Aged Mare of 2012. A full sister
to Champion Fredricksburg, Fredaville won such stakes
as the 2012 AQHA Distaff Challenge Championship-G1, and she ran third in that year’s Mildred Vessels. The mare has produced five winners from
six starters, including Mexico
stakes winner Beer Wagon and stakes-placed Kiss My Heineken.
Oscar Andrade Jr. rode Wambui (Favorite Cartel-Babe On Fire) to second for owner Dr. Ed Allred and trainer Scott Willoughby. Wambui had won four of 13 prior starts.
Victorioso Dinastia (Favorite Cartel- Forgotten Dynasty), owned by Jeryl Hartley and bred by Ronald Hartley, finished third under jockey Erasmo Gasca for trainer John Cooper. The 4-year-old filly ran second in the 2020 Mildred N. Vessels Memorial Handicap-G1.
Completing the field were All Prettied Up (Favorite Cartel-Pretty Jet High), Look Of Love MV (Walk Thru Fire-Take A Look), Fayvorite Chick (Favorite Cartel-Chicks Tell), Tequila Sangria (Favorite Cartel-Ynot Bar), Gray Invader (Royaltys Choice-Slick Invader), and Royaltys Molly (Royaltys Choice-Five Bar Molly).
