Wood helped the Whitmires select Whistle Stop Cafe at the 2019 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. They purchased her for $42,000 from breeder Bobby Cox, who had an excellent weekend at Ruidoso. Cox bred and races Ratification, winner of the inau- gural All American Oaks.
Whistle Stop Cafe started twice at Remington Park to begin her racing career. She won her trial for the Heritage Place Futurity-G1, though not fast enough to qualify for the final, and so she instead cap- tured the Heritage Place Juvenile. Moving on to Ruidoso Downs, she aced her trial and the final for the Rainbow Futurity.
She drew into the first day of trials for the All American Futurity and posted the fastest time of that day.
Ray Whitmire said that Whistle Stop Cafe probably won’t race again this year.
“She’s already had a good year,” he said. “She was bucking and playing the next day after the race. We’re going to x-ray and if everything’s fine, we’ll probably come back next summer and run at the derbies.”
Ray says that Whistle Stop Cafe has a terrific attitude.
“She’s nice to be around,” he said. “She likes people and likes to be petted.”
Cox bred Whistle Stop Cafe in Texas from homebred Sinuous, second in the Dash For Cash Derby-G2 and third in the Heritage Place Derby-G1. Cox raced Grade
