The 42nd annual Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders’ Association Yearling Sale saw record numbers with gross receipts of $6,672,800 for 462 horses sold, the highest in the sale’s history according to LQHBA officials.
The sale was conducted in three sessions. Preliminary results for the sale, which was held Aug. 2-4 at the Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder, Louisiana, report the 2018 average was $14,443, a 22% increase when compared to last year’s average of $11,917, and a median price up 14% to $8,200 compared to $7,200 in 2017.
“Once again, this sale has established new records for our Association,” LQHBA Execu- tive Director Tony Patterson said. “Congratu- lations to our buyers, consignors, agents and farms. It is their hard work and commitment that makes this sale so successful. It’s an honor for me to be a part of it.”
Watson Land & Cattle purchased the all-time sale topper Hip #589 Moonocracy (Apollitical Blood-Full Moon Dasher, Dash Ta Fame). Consigned by Spring Hill Farms, the sorrel colt is half-brother to Grade 1 winner Dashnunder Afullmoon. Moonocracy is by Champion Apollitical Blood and his $210,000 ticket is the all-time record in the history of the Louisiana-bred sale.
The second-highest seller at $200,000 was Hip# 78 Jess A Fast Rogue (Heza Fast Dash- Miss Jess Rogue, Mr Jess Perry), consigned
by Robicheaux Ranch Inc., Agent for Triple M Farms LLC. Paragon Farms purchased the sorrel colt who is out of the World Champion sire, World Champion broodmare sire Mr Jess Perry mare Miss Jess Rogue. The colt is a sibling to five stakes winners, including Jess A Rogue. Jess A Fast Rogue broke last year’s high seller record of $182,000 on the first day of the sale. Paragon Farms was the leading buyer of the 2018 sale.
