Falling In Loveagain, who won her first race wire-to-wire in the Heritage Place Futurity trials, gave jockey G.R. Carter Jr. his first and trainer Jack Brooks his seventh All American Futurity win.
In 2000, Falling In Loveagain won her second stakes race in the Red Earth Handicap. She was second in the Remington Gold Cup-G1 and a finalist in the Remington Park Championship-G1. Her record at this point stood at three starts with a win and a second and earnings of $22,000.
Falling In Loveagain moved from Remington to Ruidoso when tragedy struck. She was lying in her stall when she stuck her head under her stall gate and began to chew on an electrical fan
cord. She suffered an electrical shock that she was never able to recover from. She had to be put down when she didn’t respond to treatment.
The untimely death of Falling In Loveagain brought her career to an end. She made 23 starts with nine wins, two seconds and three thirds. She participated in 10 stakes races with earnings of $1,210,375.
When they first saw Falling In Loveagain, she was “a big, strong, powerhouse kind of a filly.”
They found that she was powerful with a great heart that allowed her to take the good luck in stride with the bad luck and keep going on to the next race. It didn’t seem to matter, Falling In Loveagain was always willing to give it her all.
Sadly, her story took us from the highest of highs in horse racing to the lowest of lows in horse racing. But, Falling In Loveagain will live on in history to always be remembered as Falling In Loveagain the 1998 All American Futurity winner.
Winner led from the gate to the wire, pulling away to a 1/2-length win. Jess Zoomin was third, with Calif Fugitive fourth and Jess Significant fifth.
Stolis Winner won in :21.178, earning $1,000,000. It was the second All American Futurity win for G. R. Carter Jr. The 2008 record for Stolis Winner included nine starts, with eight wins and one second. He earned $1,820,437 for the year. He was named the 2008 World Champion, Champion 2 Year Old and Champion 2-Year-Old Gelding.
Stolis Winner Wins The 2008 All American Futurity
The backstory of how Stolis Winner won the 2008 All American Futurity goes back to 1970, when Jerry and Pat Windham bought a ranch and started raising cattle and horses. Like many, they began with show horses and as time went on, they took up racing. Today, Jerry Windham- bred horses have won over $19 million making the Windhams the #5 all-time leading breeder of running Quarter Horses. Despite their success as breeders and owners, they had never won the All American Futurity.
One of those Windham-bred runners was Stolis Winner, by Stoli and out of Veva Jean by Runaway Winner. Stolis Winner was put in the 2007 Heritage Place Yearling Sale, where he was repurchased by Windham when he failed to bring enough money to warrant his leaving the Windham program.
Windham Ranch manager Tommy Zarate started the colt, and it was during this time he was gelded. He made his first two starts for Zarate, breaking
his maiden in his first out. Then, he went to Heath Taylor’s barn for the Heritage Place Futurity-G1, where he won both his trial heat and the finals. His next stop was the Rainbow Futurity-G1 and again, he won his trial and the finals.
When the trials for the All American Futurity came around, Stolis Winner was the fastest qualifier with a time of :21.414. He was followed by Jess Zoomin, who was second to Stolis Winner
in the Heritage Place Futurity with a time :21.471. The third fastest qualifier was Jet Black Patriot, a multiple Grade 1 winner, including the Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders’ Association Futurity- RG1. Calif Fugitive was the fourth fastest qualifier in :21.572. Ruidoso Futurity-G1 winner Jess Significant was the fifth fastest qualifier in :21.621.
When the first call came in the All American Futurity finals, it was Stolis Winner in the lead. From that point on it was a two-horse race between Stolis Winner and Jet Black Patriot. Stolis
Stolis Winner wins the 2008 All American Futurity.
