APOCALYPTICAL JESS SI 96, $6,400
Apocalyptical Jess and Ricky Ramirez drew clear to win by 3 1/4-lengths
Race record: 3-1-1-0 Day 1, Race #2
Apocalyptical Jess ran
in the trials to the Ruidoso Futurity-G1 and Rainbow Futurity-G1, but didn’t qualify. The 3rd time was the charm for the Bill T. Robbins-owned gelding, who set the fastest qualifying time on the 1st day of trials for the All American Futurity. In his 2 prior efforts, Apocalyptical
Jess drew the 8-hole in trials. He made his debut in the Ruidoso Futurity trials, breaking out at the start and racing greenly, giving up too much early ground. In the Rainbow Futurity trials, he was bumped and then had his lane taken, forcing him to the outside of the track. He ran a focused race from there and crossed the wire second. When combined with a clean &
fast start, Apocalyptical Jess showed a stellar performance on Aug. 17 in the 2nd of 16 All American Futurity trials. With Ricky Ramirez up for trainer Blane Wood, Apocalyptical Jess broke on the lead from the rail and found clear sailing throughout the 440 yards. He stopped the clock in :21.349, winning by 3 1/4-lengths. Bred by Danny Joe Miller, Apocalyptical Jess is
by World Champion Apollitical Jess si 119 ($1,399,831) & out of Cassandra Crest si 90 ($75,671), a winning Grade 1 stakes-placed daughter of Holland Ease. TOOLS IN THE SKY SI 93, $5,840
Running in the 1st All
Tools In The Sky and Felipe Garcia-Luna are up for a neck victory
Race record: 4-1-0-1 Day 1, Race # 1
American Futurity trial has advantages – those pre-race nerves are over early in the day – but then you must wait through 15 more trials to find out if you earn a spot in the finals. For Tools In The Sky, the winner of the 1st trial on Aug. 17, the wait was worth it as his winning time of :21.479 was the day’s 2nd-
fastest. Ridden by Felipe Garcia-Luna, Tools In The Sky broke well from post 1 and hooked up with Apolitical Runaway in lane 3. Drawing away from the pack, Tools In The Sky held a 1/2-length lead mid-stretch before holding off favored Im Jess Special V to win by a neck. It was the 1st win for the gelding, who is trained by Michael Joiner for Licon Farm & Ranch LLC. Tools In The Sky’s 1st appearance was in a trial to the West Texas Futurity-G1, where he broke a step late and bore in, losing ground to finish last. His next 2 starts in the Ruidoso & Rainbow futurity trials were bet- ter – finishing 3rd & 5th, respectively – but he didn’t qualify to the finals. Bred by George & Ruben Villalobos, Tools In The Sky is by First Down Dash & out of No Tools Required si 112 ($116,509), a multiple graded stakes winning daughter of Jody O Toole. Tools In The Sky is a 1/2-brother to stakes winners One Hot Mecanic si 120 ($158,472) & Required Fire si 93 ($71,235) and to stakes-placed winner Firing Tools si 103 ($153,018).
