Ruidoso Futurity-G1
LETS LEAVE
by Tracy Gantz
Two days after Lets Leave and Wired 440 finished one-two in the June 11 Ruidoso Futurity-G1, trainer Eric Valenzuela was still in awe of what a great 40th birthday he had.
“It couldn’t have gone any more perfect,” he said. “It’s crazy to just be in that race, and to have three and to run one-two, I couldn’t have planned it any more perfect. And then it was my birthday as well.”
Lets Leave, the 6-5 favorite, drew the outside post in the Futurity, while Wired 440 broke from post 4 and was a little fractious
in the gate. When the gates opened, KJ Little Duce Coup reared, losing the rider, and Wired 440 was involved in some bumping.
Lets Leave got away well under jockey Sergio Becerra Jr. The colt battled with Wired 440, reaching the wire a nose ahead of his stablemate and completing the 350 yards in :17.562.
Valenzuela trains Lets Leave for Hugo Barron’s Barron Racing and Mario Perea’s Empire Racing, both from Denver, Colorado.
Lets Leave (#10) wins the $1 Million Ruidoso Futurity-G1 under jockey Sergio Becerra Jr. at Ruidoso Downs on June 11.
