Pappasito racing for Eddie and Andrea Jensen, earned his first career stakes victory in the $115,000 Powder River Futurity for Wyoming-bred 2-year- olds at Energy Downs on June 25.
Racing 300 yards on a track officially labeled “good,” Pappas Fame defeated sixth-fastest qualifier Mr Have A Corona D by 1 1/4-lengths in :15.450. Jesus Valenzuela rode the sorrel gelding for trainer Lukrena Schoonover.
Pappas Fame recorded a career-best 92 speed index, and he was the fastest qualifier off of his 1 1/4-length win in the first of eight Powder River Futurity trials on June 16. The gelding was bred by Ron and Laurie Moosman, and he is out of Makn Fame, a homebred winning daughter of the First Down Dash stallion Maknmoves. The mare ran second in the 2014 Western States Breeders’ Futurity at Sweetwater Downs in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
Raced exclusively at Energy Downs, Pappas Fame has won all three of his outs -- including a 250-yard $4,000 maiden-special-weight dash on May 20 -- and the $59,225 winner’s share of the Powder River Futurity purse bumped his earnings to $63,465.
Mr Have A Corona D (Gotta Have Corona-Ms Makin Moves) pocketed the $23,000 runner-up
share of the purse for his owner Steve W. Day. Luis Peralta rode the homebred sorrel gelding for trainer Jesse Villegas. BV Sweet Coral (Adashofjess-Sweet Coral Beauty) finished third, while banking $11,500 for his owner, Jose Fraire. The fifth-fastest qualifier, the chestnut gelding was ridden by Valente Vorrath
for trainer Benjamin Villegas. Risin Cowboy (Flying Cowboy 123-SLR Jessies Girl) ran fourth and was followed by UD Cholula (EC Jet One-Bvlgari B), Swift And Fast (Glock-Dust Creek), Diva James (Ivory James-Diva Star), LT Gun Runner (Glock-Nurturist), and Lollygagger (Pappasito-Echo Creek Canyon).

undancin Kid earned the title of multiple stakes
winner after a wire-to-wire finish in the $74,700 Wyoming Bred Derby on June 17. Under jockey Cesar Moreno, the 3-year-old gelding broke well from the gate and immediately took a head lead He won almost identical to his trial run, finishing in first by 1/2-length for a time of :17.726 and a speed index of 88, beating his trial speed by :0.43.
Now sporting 2 wins in 2 starts for the 2023 season, Sundancin Kid brought home a winner’s share of $37,350 for owner Chis Nebeker, increasing his career earnings to $95,555. While exclusively racing in Wyoming, the sorrel gelding began his career with trainer Riley Moosman but this season he is running under trainer Kylie Valenzuela.
The gelding also placed first in the $127,820 Rock Springs Wyoming Bred Futurity last October and he was never headed.
Sundancin Kid was bred by Jim Nebeker and is out of multiple stakes placed mare Josie Bassett.
Eyesa Special Moxy (Eyesa Special Slim-Lil Charolette Swirl) won the second place slot by a nose under jockey Rick Oliver. This filly is owned by Broken Bones Cattle Company and is trained by Jesse Villegas.
Yo Barely A Glance (Fiftyshadezodgrey-Barely A Secret) and jockey Luis Peratta started the race in second by a head but were outraced coming into the stretch and were not able to recover their position.
The remaining order to finish was Makin Turtlemoves (JA Jess Perfect-Crash The Gates), Yo Morning Delite (Brindis Por Cayenne-RS Afternoon Delite), Game For Corona Hot (Salt Point Bay- Passtheflower), Dirty Jan Boy (Dustin Pro-Antonios Jan), Lil Shameless Rey (Eyesa Special Slim-Lil Shameless Angel), Jess A Corona D (Gotta Have Corona-Jess Baby May), Vvr Duck Me To Tears (Coronas Velvet-Duck The Bullet).

in the $45,600 Silks & Spurs Maturity on June 18. After an even effort finishing fourth in her trial, the four-year-old filly brought the heat to finish in first by a neck in the main event, sliding out in front for the victory. Ridden by jockey Cesar Moreno,
the bay filly covered the 400-yards in :20.020 for a speed index of 87.
This win was a special one, being her first victory since May 2021, and brought her home earnings of $22,800 to add to her bankroll
for owner David Hinkins and trainer Calli Dominguez. The filly’s career earnings are now standing at $69,567. Unavailable also finished third in the Los Alamitos Derby Challenge last May.
Unavailable was bred in Oklahoma by Reliance Ranches LLC out of Graded stakes placed mare Shades Of Blues Girl. She is a 1/2-sister to Especially Goodcandy, 2nd in the 2023 Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Futurity-G1.
Diamond Dusting (Dustin Pro-Pritzis Diamond Lil) came in second after a strong effort on the outside under jockey Joe Saenz. The gelding was bred and trained by owner Rick Hillstead.
Cowboyhatbygucci (Apollitical Blood-Ms Fast First Prize) under jockey Uriel Domininguez lost his lead coming out of the stretch and finished third. The gelding is owned by Lucero Uriel Dominguez and trained by Calli Dominguez.
