Sale Stakes Futurity
BITTERROOTS WAGON
Bby John Moorehouse
itterroots Wagon is off to a good start. The
two-year-old gelding improved to 2-0 in as many outs, also scoring his first-ever stakes victory in the $27,628 Sale Stakes Futurity on June 24 at Century Mile.
Buckey Stockwell and Glenn Wills co-own Bitterroots Wagon, who broke his maiden by winning his June 9 futurity trial and topping the qualifying ladder. That also made the gelding the heavy pre-race favorite at 3-4 odds at post time. Stockwell also
trains Bitterroots Wagon, who finished the 300-yard futurity in :15.808 for a 90 speed index.
Alexander Marti was aboard Bitterroots Wagon, who secured a $12,622 payday that improved
the gelding’s total earnings to $15,796, already compensating and then some for the $8,000 that he went for in the 2022 Alberta QHRA Yearling Sale.
Wills also bred Bitterroots Wagon, who was out of Bitterroot Corona, a 2012 mare. Bitterroot Corona won four of 12 outs during her own competitive career and was stakes-placed, hitting the board in the 2015 runnings of the Alberta Bred Derby and Alberta Stallion Derby.
After placing second behind Bitterroots Wagon
in their trial, Ms Mini Warrior (Goldin Warrior- Sparkling Hy) finished second again in the stakes final for Brant and Dakota Laczo. Brant Laczo also trains the filly, who had Corinne Andros in the
irons. Another Stockwell trainee, Get It Good (JD Wagon Boss-Status Symbol) finished third by a neck. The gelding is owned by WT Ranches Ltd. and had Miguel Lopez aboard. The remaining order of finish was Hortons Truth (Hortons Specialissue-True Copy), Mountain Night Train (Gone to the Mountain-DJ Bright Jetstream), Sparkys Signature (JD Wagon Boss- Enjoy The Corona), O Lets Be First (First Timber- Lets Get Going), and Hi Hopes (Kiddy Up-California Wildfire). A Buckey Dasher scratched.

PROFESSOR GEE
Pby Kristen Moore
rofessor Gee started his 2023 racing season off
strong, securing a 1 3/4 lengths victory in the $15,980 All Canadian Derby at Century Mile on June 10. Under the confident hand of jockey J. Botello, Professor Gee breezed down the fast track, taking
the lead in the stretch and finishing the 300-yards in :15.649 for a speed index of 95. By winning his first out of the year, the three-year-old sorrel gelding now holds his first stakes win and bagged a winner’s share of $8,422 to bring up his career earnings to $28,757.
Owned by Jerry Stojan and Kevin Lyons, Professor Gee boasts 3 wins from 7 starts with two second place finishes. All 3 wins are under trainer William Leech. The California bred gelding has had a nice career at Century Mile so far, including breaking his maiden by a full length last June.
Sporting the well-known Rolling A brand, Professor Gee was bred by leading breeder Edward C. Allred out of stakes placed mare Bemused. The gelding also finished second in the Canada Cup Futurity-G3 last October.
Jamez Bond (Ivory James-Chick Gone Wild), claimed the second place spot under jockey Corrine Andros for owner Darby Dandard and trainer Alivia Kettleson. The colt held his position to the end, beating out the third place horse by a neck. FDD Fast Man (Big Lew-Winkin Dynasty), piloted by jockey Alan Rizo, finished third after a stumble out of the gate. The bay gelding is owned by winning owner Jerry Stojan and has raced all five of his starts under trainer William Leech, exclusively at Century Mile. Northfork Boss (JD Wagon Boss-Northfork Babe) broke awkwardly from the gate but rallied to take the fourth place slot, followed by Appreciate (Ivory James-Enjoy The Corona) coming in fifth. Decider Cartel Queen (Decider-Teller Reba) finished last in the field after she bore out sharply from the gate and was outran.
Century Mile Sprint
FLIGHT CLUB
Fby Tracy Gantz
light Club has an affinity for the Century Mile
racetrack. The gelding has won eight races and never finished worse than third at the Canadian track in 11 starts. He most recently captured the June 16 CTM Sprint Stakes there.
The 5-year-old gelding dominated the 110-yard sprint, springing out to the lead instantly from the rail for jockey J.B. Botello. Though O Seeyalater closed late, Flight Club still won by a head in :06.194 for a 102 speed index.
William Leech trains Flight Club for owner Charles G. Stojan. Flight Club has won eight stakes, six of them at Century Mile, including the 2023 Century Mile Bonus Challenge Stakes. He has also placed in two other Century Mile stakes. Flight Club set a track record at Century Mile
