When Warren and some other horsemen were invited to take a look at Jet Deck as a long yearling in a dimly lit stall, Warren wasn’t impressed. He made his view known to all present when he told them, “If that is a racehorse, I’m gonna quit the business.”
Jet Deck made Warren eat his words and as he was eating them, the colt
he saw in that dimly lit stall showed
the world what kind of racehorse he was. He was the 1963 AQHA Racing World Champion, the AQHA Racing Champion Stallion, the AQHA Racing Champion Three-Year-Old Colt, the 1962 AQHA Racing Champion Stallion and the AQHA Racing Champion Two- Year-Old Colt. Next time we will look
at Jet Deck and his influence not only on the Warren breeding program but the racing world as well.
affinity - a situation that often comes with a good nick.
Sugar Bars brought not only speed, but versatility to the breeding program and that was good for the success of the program. Bud Warren had a horse that could be used in all kinds of disciplines and that sold horses. But Warren was
a racehorse man and he wanted to stay competitive in that area. So, this meant he had to breed not only for speed, but the distance needed to win at 440 yards was a factor in the continuation of his successful breeding program. The answer to that came in the form of Jet Deck, who was foaled in 1960 and was bred
in California by William and James V. A. Carter. He was purchased by Wilbur Stuchal for one of his owners, J. B.
Chambers. Chambers owned a full sister to Jet Deck named Miss Jet Deck.
