FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Dear Members,
The Annual Meeting was held at the Sheraton Uptown Hotel on January 27, 2022, in Albuquerque. Members were able to vote for the Board of Trustees as well as on four By-Law proposals. Anyone who was a current member by December 6, 2021, was sent Mail-In Ballots. We had about fifty people attend the meeting in person and another 10-12 or so by Zoom. There were 167 votes by Mail-In Ballot and another 18 people voted in person. The results of the votes are included in this issue. Mark your calendar for Thursday, January 26, 2023, to attend the next Annual Meeting in Albuquerque. The location will be announced at a later date.
The Annual Report is also included in this issue, so I hope you get a chance to look it over. We came in under budget again last year and our investments did very well in 2021. We
spent a little extra on marketing to produce a professional commercial that was played on the Cowboy Channel throughout the year. For those who have not heard of the Cowboy Channel,
the network enjoys distribution into 42 million homes on many cable/satellite systems. We will be looking into doing that again in 2022. You can go to our website at nmhorsebreeders.com and watch our commercial on the home page.
Speaking of our website, it contains a
huge amount of information. You can look up horses, check out current and past issues of our magazine and newsletters, read the agendas and minutes from our Board of Trustee meetings, find nomination blanks for upcoming New Mexico Bred stakes races and see what is on the calendar for upcoming events and payments due. Other items include the Ruidoso New Mexico Bred sale results and catalogs, our current and past end of year champions, and stallion auction results. There are news stories about our New Mexico Bred stakes. Owners and breeders are able to register their horses and can also become a member or renew memberships very easily and quickly, all right on the website. So go check it out! Again, our address is nmhorsebreeders.com. We do have space for advertisements if you are interested and our rates are very reasonable.
We have some new faces at the NMHBA offices. Amber Martin has come back to work for us after being away for several years. She is our registrar and is also in charge of our newsletters and updates the website. Linda Griego just started working as our part-time employee. She
is replacing Paulette Taylor who decided to go back into retirement after working here for the last three and a 1⁄2 years. Linda was a paralegal for many years and decided to make a big change. She has experience with horses and is bi-lingual! Linda works on the incentive awards, 10% awards, NM Breds running in open overnight races and will be keeping our stallion register up to date. Linda is also in charge of making sure that all the items in our publication are checked and sent off to Speedhorse for production. Both of these ladies are a great asset to our association, and I hope you all have a chance to meet them.
Zia Festival at Ruidoso Downs will be the weekend of August 6th and 7th this year and we plan to have our Town Hall Discussion with members the morning of the 6th, our association booth will be up in the grandstand both the 6th and 7th and our summer party and awards ceremony will be held the evening of the 6th. Our NM Bred Zia Festival stakes races will be run on both Saturday and Sunday. We hope you can make it out and support our NM Bred horses and our association.
Good luck to everyone and we hope to see you at the races!
Sincerely,
Mary M. Barber Executive Director
