Sometimes things are just meant to be in life. Things happen and we can’t necessarily see what is coming but when it
happens, we know it is something special. That is the story of Slick By Design, a barrel racing stallion and now a sire of barrel racers. He is owned by Highpoint Performance Horses LLC, which is owned by Charlie Cole and Jason Martin. Cole and Martin are very familiar names in the performance horse industry, as the two
of them have earned 84 AQHA World Championships. They are trainers who
specialize in all-around performance horses, including western pleasure, trail and barrel racing, and their stallion roster reflects their training program.
Jason Martin explains how it all came about. “Charlie and I started Highpoint Performance Horses in California in 1992,” he said. “We showed Quarter Horses in
the all-around. We moved to Texas in 2000 and we have great customers from all over the country and we have won over 100 championships through our program. We have won the senior western riding at the
World Show for 18 years in a row. That is our most famous event. Charlie (Cole) is an AQHA judge.” Added to that record, Jason has been a five-time leading exhibitor at the AQHA World Show.
The initial Highpoint Performance Horses focused on showing. Jason then told how the program changed. “In early 2000’s, we started standing stallions for some of
our customers and then we bought our own stallion Artful Investment.” Today they stand 29 stallions from a variety of events. They bred 2,800 mares this last breeding season.
