West Texas Maturity-G3
IMPERIAL EAGLE
by Michael Cusortelli
Champion Imperial Eagle, a 4-year-old son of One Famous Eagle racing for Christina D. Robinson of Southern Pines, North Carolina, was
a prompt 2-1 favorite in the $102,428 West Texas Maturity-G3 at Sunland Park on March 10.
Ridden by Esgar Ramirez for trainer Tony Sedillo and aided by a 10-mph tail wind, Imperial Eagle covered 400 yards in :19.086, and his win- ning margin was a neck from
fastest qualifier Boogies Special
Dash. The gray gelding earned
a lifetime-best 102 speed index
and the $48,141 winner’s share
of the purse.
The 4th-fastest qualifier, Imperial Eagle made his season debut with a 2nd-place finish, a neck behind Boogies Special Dash, in the first of three West Texas Maturity trials on Feb. 16. Campaigned exclusively in New Mexico, Imperial Eagle has won 5 stakes, and he was

the sport’s Champion 2 Year Old and Champion 2-Year-Old Gelding in 2016. He has banked $1,863,528 from 18 outs and his 10 wins include 4 other stakes with a neck victory in the ’16 All American Futurity-G1 at Ruidoso Downs and a 1-length score in that season’s Southwest Juvenile Championship-G1 at Zia Park.
The gelding was bred in California by Fredda Draper out of 5-time and
multiple graded stakes winner Jenuine Joy, winner of the
2010 Lou Wooten/Sydney Valentini Handicap-RG1 for New Mexico-bred distaffers
at Sunland Park. The New Mexico Hi-Point Aged Mare has produced 100% money earners from six starters, includ- ing additional stakes winner Fyrefly Jo. Imperial Eagle is her top earner.
Christina and Charles Robinson purchased Imperial
Eagle for $48,000 at the 2015 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.
Boogies Special Dash (Walk Thru Fire-Boogie Special) ran second for owner Kenneth Ruthardt and trainer Wes Giles. Adrian Ramos rode the 5-year-old California-bred gelding.

EVERYBUDDYS TALKIN
by Danny Camp
Everybuddys Talkin scored her second stakes victory in the $85,000 Sunburst Stakes-RG3 at Sunland Park on March 31.
The filly broke from the 8-post and got into some trouble: she was drifting in and the inside horses were drifting out. Under jockey Raul Herrera, she caught the leaders and crossed the wire a neck in front, stopping the timer in :17.466 for a 91 speed index.
Everybuddys Talkin took home the $51,000 winner’s share of the purse for owner Eric Pineda and trainer Ricardo Armendariz, boosting her lifetime earn- ings to $163,335. Her other stakes win came in the Shue Fly Stakes-RG3 on Jan. 14, and she was a finalist in the NMHBA Stakes-RG2 on Feb. 18.
Derrell Riggan bred Everybuddys Talkin out of
2-time winner Kat Kora, who was a finalist in the 2008 New Mexico Juvenile Challenge-G3. The mare has produced 100% winners from four starters, including graded stakes placed DM Ada Kat. Everybuddys Talkin is her first stakes winner and top money earner.
“This filly is a runner,” said trainer Ricardo Armendariz. “She’s very ornery and for some reason, she doesn’t like me. That doesn’t matter
though, she likes her job. She never walks. She bounces wher- ever she goes. We ran her in a stakes race about a month ago and she had a bad trip. She’s sound and pulled up good. We are looking to the Zia Derby and hopefully, Champion New Mexico Bred Filly.
“Raul Herrera is a great young rider, I look for him to pass the great ones five years down the road,” the trainer added about the jockey.
