LAFISHINGONABUGSMOON
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
With the participation of seven three- year-old and older runners, the seventh edition of the Javier Rosique Palavicini Classic was held in honor of Quarter Horse breeder and horseman Mr. Javier Rosique Palavicini, who passed away last February. The indi- vidual Cartini, from Cuadra El Anzuelo, was scratched from the race. Marney Jo, All Bout Dash Bass, Lafishingonabugsmoon and Chics Love Curls were the ones that caught the atten- tion of the fans due to their previous perfor- mances on the track.
For this race, there was a purse of $358,300 pesos (approximately $18,573 US) that was col- lected and disputed in a 300-yard race.
The action at the start and during the
course was clean, in such a way that every-
one gave their best performance. The grey Lafishingonabugsmoon (#8) had the most opportune start, taking this opportunity to move freely on the outside under the orders of rider Yair Daniel Báez Soto, allowing him to win the race, with 1 1/4-lengths on filly Marney Jo, who in turn beat Chics Love Curls by 1/2-length.
The stop watch con- firmed the winner’s grand race, getting to the finish line in :14.83 (SI 106), which constitutes a New Track Record, surpass- ing the :14.89 which was achieved on June 17, 2018 by Tempting Splash Dash.
The news was received
with joy by the team of
Cuadra Los Gavilanes,
who was represented in the
Winner’s Circle by trainer Rubén Romo García, given the 6-year-old gelding’s amaz- ing feat and being the only participant bred in Mexico.
The award was headed by Javier Rosique León, his mother Mrs. Martha León Vda de Rosique, grandchildren and great-granddaugh- ter of Don Javier.
Lafishingonabugsmoon is from the breeding of Ramiro González Ozuna and has distinguished himself by his consistent
performance; with 31 starts his record consists of 9 firsts, which includes the Classics Héctor Roldán Espinosa, Enrique Carrión Álvarez, Salvador Oñate and now Javier Rosique Palavicini. He also has 10 arrivals in second place and three in third.
The winner is by Nofishinonafullmoon (by Separatist) and out of A Special Lady Bug (by My
Mr Special Bug). Nofishinonafullmoon
is out of Distinguished Broodmare Your First Moon, who is the dam of the AQHA Champions Moonist (by Separatist) and Moonin The Eagle (by One Famous Eagle); the latter was sold for $2.1 million US in the 2018 Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale, a record price for a Quarter Horse sold at a public auction.
For this victory, Lafishingonabugsmoon added $179,150 pesos (approximately $9,287
