Making his first-ever start at the 870-yard distance, Gone To Be Bright ran to his first-ever win in
stakes company, taking the $21,879 Evergreen Park Distance Challenge held at Grande Prairie on July 28.
The victory also qualified
Gone To Be Bright for the AQHA Distance Challenge Championship, taking place Oct. 26 at The
Downs at Albuquerque as part of the Bank of America Challenge Championship card.

The colt was no stranger to stakes competition prior to this victory, qualifying for multiple stakes races. Gone To Be Bright finished second in last year’s running of the Alberta Bred Derby at Century Downs, and he
has been a finalist in the Whoop Up Classic Stakes at Lethbridge and in the Peace Country Derby at Grande Prairie.
Jack and Deborah Williams bred Gone To Be Bright out of unraced DJ Bright Tarbaby. Gone To Be Bright is her first foal.

second under D. Benitez for owner/ trainer Alison Clapton. The gelding previously finished second in this year’s Whoop Up Classic at Lethbridge.
Glittering Blue (Jess Louisiana Blue-Glitter Galore) and jockey Trevor Simpson took third place for owner Cody Eagle Bear and trainer Alvin Cross Child. The gelding won the 2018 Evergreen Park Distance Challenge and was a finalist in that year’s AQHA Distance Challenge Championship-G1.

Gone To Be Bright broke on the lead and was running in front by a head at both the first call and as he reached the top of the stretch. He then gained some breathing room during the final yards of the contest to sport a full 1/2-length margin as he hit the finish line.
