Stripsteak is making a name for himself in Canada. He most recently proved victorious in the $39,443 Bank of America Evergreen Park Challenge on Aug. 23.
In against only three rivals, Stripsteak went off as the 5-4 favorite in the event.
Regular rider Ricardo Moreno was back aboard for trainer William Leech.
Stripsteak was second from the
three-gate and dueled with JD
Wagon Boss early in the 440-yard
Owner Charles Stojan purchased Stripsteak for $14,000 at the 2016 Los Alamitos Equine Sale in California from Burns Ranch, Agent.
Stripsteak began his career with two starts at Los Alamitos in 2017, breaking his maiden in his first attempt. Since then he has com- peted at several Canadian tracks, winning the 2018 Peace Country Derby and Canada Cup Derby
as well as the 2019 Old Timers Classic Stakes. He was also third in the 2018 All Canadian Derby and is a multiple stakes finalist. His record stands at 16-10(3)-2-1(1).
Dr. Steve Burns bred Stripsteak out of his homebred Ruths Chris, a four-time winner and multiple stakes fiinalist who banked over $38,000 in her race career. As
a broodmare, Ruths Chris has produced seven winners from eight starters, including stakes winner Black Fryday and stakes-placed runners Yourdarkestnitemare and
Capitol Grille. Ruths Chris is a half-sister to stakes winners Van Zant and Cowboy 109 as well as to three stakes-placed runners.
Buckey Stockwell owns and trains JD Wagon Boss (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Elly Mae), who finished second with Jose Rocha aboard. The colt was the rich-
est earner going into the Bank of America Evergreen Park Challenge.
Leech also trains third-place Gone To Be Bright (Gone To The Mountain-DJ Bright Tarbaby). J.B. Botello was aboard for the Gonetothebrightside Syndicate. The colt was coming off a win in the Evergreen Park Distance Challenge.
Walters Cartel (Corona Cartel- First Lady Amber) finished fourth. Good Kiddy scratched.
Bank of America Evergreen Park Challenge. He then pulled away and had the lead by 1/2-length at the top of the stretch. Continuing his push to the wire, the bay gelding crossed the finish line
1 1/4-lengths to the good in :21.936, which was good for a 101 speed index.
The $21,693 winner’s share of the purse pushed Stripsteak’s earn- ings to $66,619.
