Association worked to present a strategic Quarter Horse racing calendar for the remain- der of 2020 that maximizes the available slot revenue. The 10-day meet is scheduled to begin Sept. 17 and conclude Oct. 8 with the running of the $150,000-added LQHBA Sale Futurity-RG1. Fair Grounds race dates will be contested at Evangeline on Sept. 17-19, 24-26 and Oct. 1-3, 8.
The state Racing Commission approved Evangeline Downs Quarter Horse meet to conduct live racing from Oct. 9 through Dec. 19, with the running of the 2020 LQHBA Louisiana Million. Evangeline Downs’ avail- able purse funds were impacted due COVID- 19 restrictions, which reduced slot revenue.
As a result, both breeds are running reduced race dates in 2020 to maximize available purse funds. In 2021, LQHBA anticipated returning to its normal schedule with Louisiana Downs racing 46 days, Delta Downs racing 46 days, Fairgrounds racing10 days and Evangeline Downs racing 46 days.
TURF PARADISE ANNOUNCES NEW MEET
Turf Paradise Race Course announced its plans for a 133-day live race meet to start Oct. 30 and to run thru May 5, 2021. The Phoenix, Arizona, track ended its 2019-20 season on March 10 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Live racing was scheduled to run through May 3.
